Sunday morning

My mother had a poem posted on her refrigerator, typed by her on her manual typewriter and secured to the surface with Scotch tape.  She didn’t know the author and attributed it to “Anon”.  But I learned it was an Ogden Nash poem, and carried its words in my heart for mornings such as this one.  Here it is.  Enjoy:

I Didn’t Go To Church Today
I didn’t go to church today,
I trust the Lord to understand.
The surf was swirling blue and white,
The children swirling on the sand.
He knows, He knows how brief my stay,
How brief this spell of summer weather,
He knows when I am said and done
We’ll have plenty of time together.
Ogden Nash
